"There has been corruption in the 2G spectrum allocation and Raja is trying to escape the allegations," Jailey told reporters on the sidelines of state BJP legislature meeting to elect a new leader.

Jaitley has demanded that Raja should not stay in office in the interest of a fair investigation into the "biggest scandal since Independence" which he claimed amounted to of Rs 60,000 crore.

In the wake of Jaitley and BJP's allegations, Raja said the BJP-led NDA government had distributed free spectrum to operators in what he called "biggest ever scam" that deprived the exchequer of over Rs 1,60,000 crore revenue
