Rambhau Munde, police inspector from the Ambernath police station, said, “The passenger, Bapu Talwalkar, was travelling to Rahatoli village, Badlapur, to attend the haldi ceremony of a friend. He and his friends boarded a rickshaw for Badlapur.”

Along the way, the rickshaw driver and the passengers got into an argument over what the fare should be, the police said. “The rickshaw driver stopped his vehicle at the gate of Garlick Company and ordered all the passengers to get out of it,” Munde said.

He then left the passengers standing there and sped off.

Minutes later, he returned with seven friends, who were all armed with steel rods and hockey sticks.

Bapu Talwalkar happened to be the only one among the passengers standing at the gate, and the men brutally attacked him and ran away, Munde said.

Hearing Talwalkar’s cries, his friends rushed to the gate and took him to the hospital, but doctors declared Talwalkar dead before admission.

Police have seized the rickshaw and have taken the rickshaw owner into custody. They are now looking for the rickshaw driver and his friends.
