A 12-bore double-barrel rifle registered in the name of the wife of a deputy commissioner of police (DCP) attached with the Special Branch has gone missing.

Hemlata Salve (53), wife of DCP Vishwasrao Salve (Special Branch-I) filed the complaint with the Matunga police after she found the rifle missing.
Senior inspector Sunil Deshmukh said the complainant told the police that her rifle went missing between August 2008 and November 2009.
“Salve said she had given the rifle to an orderly at their Dadar residence to take the rifle to the Local Arms unit in Naigaon for servicing. Later, she lost track of it and the orderly got transferred,” said Deshmukh.
“A few days ago, she remembered about the rifle and when she could not find it in her house, she approached the police. We have registered a case of criminal breach of trust against the orderly.”
Deshmukh said Salve did not remember the name of the orderly to whom she gave the rifle. “We will contact the Local Arms headquarters in Worli and try to get records of all police personnel who might have worked as orderlies for the Salves between August 2008 and November 2009 and trace the orderly.” said Deshmukh.
The Salves were unavailable for comment.
