Expert salvagers who have been appointed by the owners of the grounded vessel MT Pavit have begun preparation for the salvage operations.

The salvage operation will be carried out next week. However, the vessel needs to be straightened since it has tilted 7 degrees north. Satish Agnihotri, director general of shipping, said “The salvagers started removing the sand from underneath the ship on Saturday.”

The salvagers operation was to begin last Thursday, but was postponed since the clearance of local authorities such as the customs, police and collector was not obtained.

The vessel ran aground off Juhu beach on July 31.
