Dutt’s counsel Rizwan Merchant approached the court on Friday saying his client was being treated unfairly and asked for rectification of the situation.
“The actor is no terrorist,” Merchant said. “He has not even been convicted under TADA. He should not have been kept in the barrack that was designed for a terrorist like Kasab and should not have been lodged with an equally dangerous accused in Jundal.”

He informed the court that the cell where the actor is lodged does not have proper ventilation. “He wasn’t even allowed food on Thursday night as it was brought in a tiffin box and not in plastic bags,” Merchant said. “The actor has been treated harshly.”

Dutt was convicted by the TADA court for illegal possession of a 9-mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle that were part of a consignment brought to India for coordinated serial blasts that killed 257 people and injured over 700 in 1993 in Mumbai.
