The 75th birthday celebrations of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar will be a grand affair – with dignitaries from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray attending the events planned at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi and Nehru Centre in Mumbai on December 10 and 12.
The NCP has invited the who’s who of the country — politicians, industrialists and celebrities — making the guest list a power-packed one.
On December 10, political leaders across party lines, including President Pranab Mukherjee, vice-president Hamid Ansari, Modi, former PM Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, are expected to attend the event at Vigyan Bhavan.
The list also includes Lalu Prasad, Mulayam Singh Yadav and all former colleagues of Pawar in both houses of Parliament.
The seven chief ministers invited for the event include Bihar’s Nitish Kumar, Punjab’s Parkash Singh Badal and Devendra Fadnavis from the state. Corporate honchos namely Ratan Tata, Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, Aditya Birla and Adi Godrej, too, have been invited, said a senior leader.
The English and Marathi version of a book, On My Terms, authored by Sharad Pawar will be released at Vigyan Bhavan. The Marathi version has been named Lok Majha Sangati
“It is a semi-autobiography in which Pawar has recollected all important incidents in his social and political career in the past 50 years,” said another senior leader. The 400-page book has 40 pages of photographs.
The prominent personalities will share their experiences with Pawar.
The event at Nehru Centre on December 12 will witness the presence of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, Raj Thackeray, Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan and senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse. Another book, Adhaarwad (banyan tree in English) will also be released.
“It is a coffee-table book in five languages — Marathi, Hindi, English, Gujarati and Urdu. Distinguished personalities such as actor Sulochana, writer Gulzar, Madhu Mangesh Karnik, industrialist Rahul Bajaj, computer scientist Vijay Bhatkar and actor Nana Patekar will be present for the release,” said an NCP leader.
Adhaarwad is a one-of-its-kind illustrated books that captures 75 memorable moments of Sharad Pawar’s life and has been compiled by senior NCP leader and state chief Sunil Tatkare, he said.
Before heading to the Nehru Centre, Pawar will meet people at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre at Nariman Point from 8am to 1pm.
“The celebrations are a symbol of Pawar’s unique capability to maintain strong ties across a diverse political and social spectrum. He might have lost out on an opportunity to
become the PM, but he is not out yet,” said a close aide of the politician.
