A 39-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping off a building at Malad (West) on Monday morning.

Camille Fernandes, 39, a resident of Jan Kalyan Nagar in Malwani, had gone to the building to apply for a job in a call centre, the police said. The incident took place around 10.45 am.

The police said she was in the building for a job interview at a call centre called First Source. Fernandes jumped off from the window located between the fifth and sixth floor of building number 16 at the Interface Complex. The watchmen heard the thud when she crashed on the ground and alerted the authorities.

The police found a bag lying next to the body in which they found her passport and other documents. Her parents were then informed about her death. Fernandes did not leave behind a suicide note. However, her parents’ statements indicate that she was frustrated because of her inability to find a job and complications in her marriage.

"In January, Fernandes went to Australia in search of a job where she met businessman Oswald Fernandes, 73. After a brief love affair she married him. However, the marriage did not work out and the couple applied for a divorce. Five months later, she returned to Mumbai," said Maruti Telang, senior police inspector of Bangur Nagar police station.

After returning to the city Fernandes started searching for jobs. On Monday, she went to the office of First Source, from where she had been rejected a year ago. "As there was no vacancy Fernandes was asked to try later and this probably frustrated her. While coming down, she jumped off from the window," Telang said.
