"My message to everyone is 'Call before you quit'," said Furtado, whose son committed suicide over a poor exam paper.

He was speaking at a suicide prevention workshop at Sion Hospital on Monday, and has conducted more than 130 workshops in the city.

The workshop is part of an initiative to educate the community to read signs of a disturbed mind. The hospital's psychiatry department and psychiatrist Dr Harish Shetty are designing it with assistance from the Vandrevala Foundation.
