A special investigating team (SIT) from the Mumbai crime branch on Friday visited the Gurgaon homes of all those accused in the fake encounter of gangster Sandeep Gadoli in February, but failed to trace any of them.

A source said the team visited the homes of eight cops, and those of Gadoli’s girlfriend Divya Pahuja and politician Manoj Binder, both of whom have also been booked in the case. The team however, failed to track down any of the suspects.

Pahuja was in Gadoli’s room when he was killed, and is believed to have tipped off the Gurgaon police about his location. Binder is a suspect as he had been in touch over the phone with one of the accused policemen on the day of the encounter.

The source added that the team will remain in Gurgaon, where they have alerted informers to help them track down and arrest the suspects.

Earlier on Thursday, a Mumbai court had refused to issue arrest warrants against the accused but said the police could arrest them anyway.

The SIT was formed to investigate the killing of Gadoli at Airport Metro Hotel, Andheri, on February 7. The cops alleged that Pahuja, who was in the room at the time, gave false statements to the SIT. However, they were found out when the Mumbai police recovered CCTV footage of the incident.
