She, however, cannot talk as she is on ventilator. "She was brought to the hospital with her intestine hanging out. The bleeding has stopped, but she is on life support. The next two to three days are critical for her," said Dr Narendra Sharma, who manages the intensive care unit at Guru Nanak hospital in Bandra (east).

The Kherwadi police said the student was stabbed eight to 10 times allegedly by her classmate, Nikhil Bankar, on Saturday morning at Chetana College, Bandra (east), after which Bankar stabbed himself and slit his wrist.

He succumbed to his injuries at Sion hospital.

Apart from the grievous stomach injuries the victim has sustained, the arteries and veins on her hands are also damaged. "The wound on her hands does not require immediate surgery. Once she is off the ventilator, we can plan a surgery," Sharma said.

Doctors said her blood pressure is fluctuating acutely and she has lost a lot of blood. "She is on medication to maintain her blood pressure, and only after she stabilises can we decide on further treatment," said another doctor.
