The scheduled caste cell of the city Congress has asked the All India Congress Committee to take disciplinary action against the party’s member of Parliament, Eknath Gaikwad. They want action for his association with an organisation linked with deputy chief minister of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi, that hosted Dalai Lama in the city last month.

A delegation led by city Congress president, Ganesh Kamble, met union defense minister and AICC general secretary in-charge (Maharashtra), AK Antony, union ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Oscar Fernandez and party general secretary and MP Avinash Pande.

“We submitted our complaint to all senior leaders. We’re expected to meet party president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday,” said Kamble.

The foundation made Gaikwad chairman of the organising committee that hosted Dalai Lama. CM Prithviraj Chavan and MP Sanjay Nirupam skipped the event when they learnt about the hosts. Gaikwad refused comment.

The cell also wants the party to punish Gaikwad for opposing the proposal of giving the Dharavi makeover project work to Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority.
