All three are employed with a call center.

“The three boys used a boat made of thermocol block. When they were in the middle of the 15 feet deep pond, the thermacol block overturned due to the weight,” said Sanjay Pawar, police sub inspector from Malwani police station.

While Jha and Khan, managed to swim across, Shaikh drowned, as he did not know swimming. Shaikh’s friends saw him drowning but they panicked and went home.

Shaikh’s father went to the police station to lodge a missing person's complaint and during inquiry, police found out that Shaikh was last seen with Khan and Jha.

Khan and Jha told the police about the incident. The police informed the fire brigade which reached the spot and began the rescue operations but could not recover the body.

“Since it was getting dark we had to stop the operations. We resumed the rescue operations in the morning and recovered Shaikh’s body at around 12pm on Sunday,” said a fire brigade official.

“We have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further inquiries,” said Pawar.
