Actor Sanjay Dutt, ordered back to prison by the Supreme Court in the 1993 Mumbai bombings, said Thursday he would surrender and not seek pardon.
The 53-year-old, who will have to spend three-and-half years in jail, broke down repeatedly as he addressed the media with sister Priya Dutt, a Congress MP, by his side. He requested media to respect his privacy. “I’ve a lot of work to finish and now I want to spend my time with my family...,” said Dutt, who has to surrender by April 21.
Press Council of India chairman Markandey Katju, however, said he would ago ahead and seek presidential pardon for Dutt and Zaibunnisa, another convict in the case.
