Gadkari had filed a defamation case against the union minister for alleging that Gadkari possessed a “benami flat” in the controversial Adarsh cooperative housing society.

Rameshwar Gite, lawyer for Gadkari, said, “Tewari appeared before metropolitan magistrate SS Gulane with his lawyer and filed a bail application. He was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 10,000.” Gite added, “Tewari cited his heart ailment among other grounds for bail.”

Gite opposed the bail on the grounds that the comments made against Gadkari were derogatory and had sullied his reputation.

On March 7, the court had issued a notice asking Tewari to be present before the court on Monday. The case was filed in December 2010 by Gadkari under Section 500 of the IPC.

Gadkari, in his complaint, had claimed that it was due to his “serious objection regarding the corruption scam in the name of Adarsh” that had led to the then Maharashtra chief minister stepping down and the CBI filing a case.
