Thackeray to MF: Apologise, return

On a day when Home Minister P. Chidambaram said India would be happy to have M.F. Husain back, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said the painter would have to apologise and destroy his controversial paintings if he wants to return.

On a day when Home Minister P Chidambaram said India would be happy to have MF Husain back, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said the painter would have to apologise and destroy his controversial paintings if he wants to return.

Husain recently accepted the citizenship of Qatar.

Thackeray, in an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamna, said the painter should have been careful while depicting Hindu gods and goddesses:

“No other religion would tolerate this. Husain has hurt the sentiments of Hindus and the matter could have been closed by a simple apology.”
