Thief beaten to death in city

A 20-year-old attempting to break-into a footwear store at Goregaon (West) on Saturday night was beaten to death by four employees of the store. The staff, who have been arrested on charges of murder, were sleeping inside the shop following a spate of break-ins at the store in the past month, police said.

A 20-year-old attempting to break-into a footwear store at Goregaon (West) on Saturday night was beaten to death by four employees of the store. The staff, who have been arrested on charges of murder, were sleeping inside the shop following a spate of break-ins at the store in the past month, police said.

On Saturday night, the Goregaon (West) police received a call about a body lying in a compound behind the store. The police were suspicious as the body had external injuries.

The police identified the man as Ajit Lohar, a resident of Malad (East). The police learned during questioning that four staff of a footwear store – where the body was found – had allegedly bludgeoned the man to death. The police are investigating.
