Her father, Jamunaprasad Sharma, and brother, Rajesh, have been charged with repeatedly raping a 12-year-old girl in Saki Naka.

Initially hesitant to speak, her frustration soon spills over in an outburst.

“What do you want me to say? That my senior citizen father and others in my family are rapists? It’s a frame-up to spoil the name of my family. I don’t know why she [victim] did this,” Singh said.

Singh, who works as a tuition teacher, added: “The girl [victim] used to come to my home for tuitions until last October. Our family was friendly with her, and we never thought she could do something like this to us.”

Singh has been sitting for hours at the police station, waiting to meet her father, who will be brought there from court for his police remand.

“I know my family is innocent, which is why I’m standing by them,” she said.

She questioned the timing of the victim’s accusation.

“If this has been happening for so long, why did she not lodge a complaint earlier?” she asked, adding that her [Singh’s] own children are also very fond of Jamunaprasad.
