The incident took place around 5.30pm in Wakipada area of Nalasopara (East) when three persons shot a round at Akram Hafeez Shaikh, 25, who works as a driver for small-time builder, Ayub Mohamed Khan.

The bullet hit Shaikh near his ear, injuring him badly. He was taken to D’Souza Hospital in Vasai.

An officer from the Nalasopara police station said that prima facie property dispute seems to be the motive behind the shootout.

S Koregaonkar, inspector, Nalasopara police station, said Shaikh and his employer were at an under-construction site with the trio. “They were taking measurements of the land when they had a disagreement. One of the accused then removed a country-made revolver and shot a round which hit Shaikh.”

The three accused have been identified as Zubair Siddique, Abu Abdul Khan and Michael D’silva. The main accused, Zubair Mujid Khan, is absconding.

According to the police, the land had been sold to both Shaikh and Zubair Khan due to which there was dispute between the two.

The Nalasopara police have booked the trio on charges of attempted murder under section 307 of the IPC. They have also been booked under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
