The victim was playing in the area, when he fell into a 5-foot deep tank that had been dug behind the under-construction building Kailash Heights in Irani Wadi.

The child has been identified as Shivam Yadav, the son of one of the labourers who worked at the site.

“Investigations are on to find out how the boy fell into the tank. According to preliminary investigations, it appears to be an accidental death,” said inspector B Salunkhe of the Kandivli police station.

The tank, which was half-full, had been built for construction purposes.

A resident from the neighbouring building saw the boy falling in the tank and immediately informed others.

Although Yadav was alive when he was pulled out of the tank, he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The deceased and his family hail from a village in UP and came to the city two weeks ago.
