Truck with beer cartons overturns, leads to traffic jam

"The driver tried to take a left turn at Surve junction and lost control of the truck. The truck overturned and the beer cartons it was carrying spilled on to the road," said BB Gaikwad, inspector, Ghatkopar traffic outpost.

Gaikwad said that traffic movement was shut for five hours for about 200 metres around the junction in Kurla (West). The spillage was cleared by around 11am, after which the lane was opened to motorists.

"The road has two lanes that move in the direction of BKC. Only one of these two lanes was shut briefly. No major traffic snarls were reported," said Gaikwad.

However, motorists complained about heavy traffic. Several Mumbaiites posted messages on social networking sites advising people to avoid LBS road. "Stuck in a traffic jam at Kurla LBS Marg since the last 30 minutes," wrote a motorist on a micro-blogging site.

"The beer cartons were loaded from Navi Mumbai. The consignment is mostly delivered at night," said Laxman Bhalerao, senior police inspector, Kurla police station. "No one was injured," he added.
