Labour minister Hasan Mushriff said the website — mahashramm.gov.in — aimed at bringing greater transparency in the working of the department by allowing citizens to access department policies.
The website will provide a platform on which all labourers, especially unorganised workers — who form 90% of the work force in the country — can register themselves and avail of the benefits of government schemes. It will keep a check on whether the benefits of government schemes reach workers.
The website will also allow labour unions to register complaints against their employers or government officials and get their grievances redressed.
Further, the website will help citizens lodge complaints pertaining to child labour directly with the government. A child labour helpline number has been provided to offer quick assistance to victims.
“The website provides an efficient interface for labourers, employers and trade unions associated with labour department offices,” said Kavita Gupta, principal secretary, labour department.
