The complainant, Rajesh Khandelwal, (40) resides at Malad Housing Society, in Malad (East). The Dindoshi police said the incident occurred between 2 and 3 pm.

“The accused broke open the latch of the main door. They entered the bedroom and stole gold and silver valuables worth Rs 3.62 lakh and Rs 60,000 cash from the cupboard,” said Senior Inspector Vinayak Kakade of the Dindoshi police station. Khandelwal and his family had gone to his brother’s house when the incident took place.

“He returned in an hour and discovered the house was ransacked and the jewellery was missing from the cupboard,” said an officer.

The police registered a case of theft against unidentified men. “The complainant does not suspect anybody. We are inquiring past offenders,” Kakade said.
