The police have also arrested the primary school teacher and a school nanny for intimidating the victim and forbidding her from reporting the incident.

On Thursday, the watchman Tilam Singh, who has been employed with the school for over 30 years, took the victim inside the toilet and allegedly raped her.

The victim narrated the incident to the nanny Rekha Kamble, who then informed school teacher Elison Miranda.

“Both Miranda and Kamble scolded the girl and warned her against mentioning it to anyone,” said Mahesh Ingle, police sub inspector of Vakola police station.

However, the victim informed her mother on Saturday.

“The victim’s mother took her to Sion Hospital where medical tests confirmed that she was raped. Based on her complaint and the medical report, we lodged an FIR,” said Ingle.

While Singh has been arrested under section 376 (rape) of the IPC, Miranda and Kamble have been booked for abetting the crime.

The school authorities, however, said school staffers were falsely implicated.

A schoolteacher Rashmi Vaidya said, “The girl’s father was not even aware that his wife had lodged a complaint. He also told us that his wife is mentally unstable.”
