What is the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) doing about garbage being dumped into the lake and people defecating in it?
We have not received any complaint. We are working on cleaning it up.

Why is the plan to clean and beautify the talao pending for so long?
Such redevelopment takes time and money. The [de-silting and cleaning] itself requires Rs 8 crore. The talao should be cleaned up by the end of this year.

Are sewer lines and drains emptying into the lake?
No, but it might be polluted by the leakage of a nearby sewer or drain. We are investigating this.

Why did the BMC turn down citizens’ and corporations’ proposals to clean the talao?
The BMC is working on cleaning up the tank. The delay is because such an undertaking requires time. A tender has to be floated and the design has to be approved. That is almost done and work will begin soon.
