A 39-year-old woman was murdered in front of her son by three unidentified men who had barged into her residence at Andheri (East) on Thursday.
The woman has been identified as Aruna Pandey, who lived with her husband, Pramod and their 12-year-old son Himanshu near a chawl located at Takshila society at Mahakali Caves Road Gate in Andheri (East).
According to the police, the incident took place around 4pm when the three men barged into Aruna’s residence and tied her son to a chair.
They slit Aruna’s throat and fled from the spot before Himanshu could raise an alarm.
The mother and son were alone in the house while Pramod who works as a driver in a jewllery unit in Andheri (East), had gone to work.
The police learnt about the incident when they received a call from locals who saw Aruna’s body covered in blood lying on the floor. According to the statement given by the woman’s son, the men demanded Rs 15 lakh that her husband had borrowed from them.
Aruna clearly told the men that her husband had never mentioned about taking such a huge loan.
Police said the trio got into an argument with Aruna and took her inside the house and tied her son to a chair.
They then took the victim to the next room where they took out a sharp object and slit her throat. They then left. The victim’s son who saw everything managed to free himself and ran out of the house screaming for help.
Though the police said the motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained, they have learnt that there was some money dispute.
“The motive is not yet clear but it does not look like the accused had come with the intention of robbery. The killers surprisingly did not hurt the victim’s son after killing her. There seems to be something amiss in the case. However, based on the description given by Himanshu we have launched a manhunt for the accused, ” said SL Hujband, senior police inspector of MIDC police station.
