Bon Iver is now a Grammy award winning band. The band, which began its roots in Eau Claire, won two awards during the 54th annual Grammy Awards, including one from a major category: best new artist of the year.

Bon Iver was founded by Eau Claire native Justin Vernon.

Bon Iver beat out major chart-topping acts for best new artist, like Nicki Minaj, the Band Perry and J Cole, as well as electronic DJ Skrillex, who already won three Grammys Sunday.

The group also won best alternative music album for their self-titled album, Bon Iver Bon Iver.

Vernon thanked the bands he's toured with, his friends and family and the city of Eau Claire when accepting the award. Then he thanked the Grammy voters, saying to laughs from the crowd: "Sweet, sweet hook-up."

The band was nominated for four total nominations, including best song and record of the year for Holocene.
