Polly Esthers doesn’t need an introduction. It was by far the only discotheque where the city’s old-time party people would still go to shake a leg to retro music. Two months ago, the nightclub situated at Gordon House Hotel in Colaba, was closed for renovation. When we called the hotel anonymously to check on its status on Wednesday, we were told in a very how-can-you-not-know-this-already manner: “But Polly Esthers has been closed… for two months now, there were some licensing issues”.

The F&B manager, Farzad Virji at Gordon House Hotel, however, insists otherwise. “Polly Esthers is not shut, that is a rumour. Renovation work is still on and that will take some time,” he says.

Sanjiv Ardekar, general manger, human resources at Mars Restaurants reiterated: “We’re trying hard to get all the licenses cleared. We can’t afford to incur the losses we are facing by keeping it shut. Hopefully the license will come in a month.”

Over the past few years, several nightclubs like Red Light, Poison and Bling have been closed down due to various reasons.
