PATNA: Denied a bed for two days, an HIV-positive patient died on the floor of the emergency room at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), Bihar government’s premier health facility, on Thursday. The woman was referred from Motihari in East Champaran district, around 155km north of Patna, to the PMCH on July 19. Her father said she was not provided a bed as she was HIV-positive. PMCH medical superintendent Dr Lakhindra Prasad said: “It is not possible to provide beds to all the patients at our hospital. We have 100 beds in the emergency ward, while every day we get around 300-plus patients.”
