GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with yoga guru Baba Ramdev and spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will be in attendance during Sarbananda Sonowal’s swearing-in ceremony as Assam chief minister on Tuesday.

At least 20 senior ministers of Modi government and chief ministers of all Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states are also expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the ministers of the first BJP-led government in Assam, BJP media cell functionary Dilip Saikia said.

Saikia said that about 1.5 lakh people are expected to be present during the official function. Sonowal had on Sunday requested the outgoing chief minister and Congress leader Tarun Gogoi to also attend his swearing-in ceremony.

Chief ministers of all Northeastern states are also likely to be present during the function.

Considering the number of dignitaries that will attend the ceremony, Assam police and central security agencies have made elaborate security arrangements.

The venue of the ceremony – the Khanapara Veterinary College playground has been cordoned off. CCTV cameras have been installed all around the ground.

Security deployment has also been increased in and around the hotels where the dignitaries will be staying. Deputy commissioner of Kamrup ( Metro) district M Angamuthu said they had taken all the precautionary measures to ensure that the ceremony takes place without any untoward incident.
