The victim, Vinita Jha of DLF Colony, had gone to the local market around 6.30pm to buy fruits. She was being followed by two armed bikers and two of their accomplices on a scooter. She said they had been following her when she went to the first fruit vendor and then the second.

“While I was purchasing apples from the second vendor, a bike stopped a few steps from the cart and the pillion rider walked towards me with a pistol in his hands. I noticed him only when he came up to my side, openly flouting the pistol in his hand. He looked at me but did not say anything,” Jha said.

“Then, he grabbed my gold chain with his free hand very easily. I was shocked by his move. I wanted to shout, but could not do so as he had a pistol in his hand. He then hurried back to the bike and fled the spot, flashing the pistol yet again. I was shocked and could recover only when another customer spoke to me. The biker could have shot me had I tried to shout or say anything,” she added.

She said that after the incident, she remembered that the two bikers and their other accomplices on a scooter had been following her that evening. In the CCTV footage of the incident, the pillion rider is seen walking towards Jha and pulling out a pistol from his pocket when he reaches her, catching her off guard.

The police said they have procured CCTV footage of the incident and are scanning it for clues about the robbers.

“An FIR will be lodged as the victim has forwarded a complaint. Our teams are also checking on local criminals involved in snatching incidents. The snatchers will be nabbed soon,” said Anup Singh, circle officer (Sahibabad).
