The DMRC opened the 6.675km Blue Line extension — Noida City Centre to Electronic City — of the already operational Dwarka’s Sector 21- Noida City Centre (Line 3) on March 9. The DMRC started operations on the 6.675 km stretch but the work on Foot Over Bridge could not be finished by March 9.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday said it is set to open a foot over bridge (FOB) to connect the Electronic City Metro station with Sector 62 in the next three days.

The objective of building this FOB is to provide safe walkway for Metro users, who want to cross over from Sector 62 to the Electronic City Metro station, located in Sector 63, and vice versa.

The DMRC opened the 6.675km Blue Line extension — Noida City Centre to Electronic City — of the already operational Dwarka’s Sector 21- Noida City Centre (Line 3) on March 9. The DMRC started operations on the 6.675 km stretch but the work on FOB could not be finished by March 9.

“The finishing work on this FOB is underway and we hope that the work on the stairs will be completed in the next three days. Once the stairs are ready, we will open this FOB for pedestrians and Metro users who have to cross over to other side and vice versa as the road between the two sectors witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day,” a DMRC spokesperson said.

The Electronic City Metro station is the last one on the Blue Line and is located on the Noida-Ghaziabad border adjoining the National Highway-9. The Metro station is located in Sector 63, which houses industrial units, commercial areas, offices of builders, media houses and MNCs, including two villages.

In Sector 62, there are around 50 group housing complexes, two universities, MNC offices and other private educational institutes.

“Those who travel by the Metro between Delhi and Noida need to go to and fro between these two important sectors. In the absence of an FOB, they have to risk crossing the Road No.6 that connects Noida with NH-9. Once this FOB is opened, Metro users can safely walk between the station and Sector 62. We have started installation of escalators and hope that the foot over bridge becomes operational in the next one week,” the spokesperson said.

In the absence of an FOB, not only is the pedestrian safety compromised, it also slows down traffic near the Metro stations. Pedestrians often cause congestion on this road.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had in August 2015 started the work on this Blue Line extension project with an estimated cost of 1,816 crore, of which the foot over bridge is also a part.
