Kumar was a chartered accountant and had an independent practice, the police said. He was a native of Sakroda village in Musuri of Ghaziabad. He is survived by a wife and a child.

Around 12.45am on Thursday, two persons barged into his house and shot him multiple times with countrymade pistols, the police said.

“Two unknown persons attacked Kumar after barging into his house and shot him multiple times in the chest. The police were informed by 1am and a PCR team reached the spot immediately. The two assailants had fled by then and so, we took the victim to a nearby private hospital for immediate medical attention. However, the doctors declared him brought dead,” Satyender Kumar Singh, station house officer, Masuri police station, said.

Kumar’s brother, Ajay, refused to speculate on the suspects.

“I have come to the district hospital to get the post-mortem examination of the body done but it is being delayed. I have filed a complaint with the police in this matter,” Ajay said.

Ghaziabad has been hit by a barrage of crimes of late. The city is witnessing armed attacks by assailants on a daily basis. On Wednesday, a vegetable vendor was shot at by two persons on a bike and a BSNL junior engineer’s family was robbed at knifepoint.

No arrest has been made in the murder case yet. The police said they are probing all angles.

“We have lodged a case under sections 302 and 454 of the Indian Penal Code against unknown persons, for murder and trespassing. No arrest has been made yet. We are going through available CCTV footages for leads. Ajay hinted to us that some of his brother’s neighbours might have been involved in the murder but, we have not named anyone in the First Information Report,” Singh said.
