Ghaziabad: Class 9 student drowns in Hindon canal
Police said the victim was fished out after an hour-long search
A 15-year-old student drowned in the Hindon canal on Wednesday afternoon after he along with a group of friends got into the canal for a bath.

The incident took place near Hindon barrage next to Vasundhara locality. The police said the victim was fished out after nearly an hour of searching and was declared dead by doctors.
The police identified him as Mohammad Ali from Balaji Vihar. The boy was identified with the help of his school ID card. He was a class 9 student of Shambhu Dayal Inter College. He had come to the canal with his friends to take bath. The officials said they rushed police teams and local divers to save the boy, but in vain.
“After being alerted about the incident, we searched for the boy for nearly an hour. Finally, we fished him out and rushed him to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. There have been several instances of drowning in the Hindon canal in the recent past,” said SC Dubey, station house officer, Indirapuram.
“Authorities must take precautionary measures to prevent such incidents. The locals are also aware of the danger involved but they still get into the canal for bathing,” he said.

On June 20, a young man dived had dived into the Hindon canal near Vasundhara in a bid to save a minor girl from drowning. Both drowned in the canal and local divers and police fished out the bodies.
In a similar incident on June 18, two youngsters drowned in the Hindon canal when they were trying to save one of their friends who had vanished under water. They too had come to take bath in the canal, police had said.
