Delhi car crash: Injured Amity student discharged from hospital

Ten students, travelling in a blue Scorpio car, to Murthal in Haryana, met with an accident on GT Karnal road in Alipur on Saturday night. Three students died in the incident. The incident took place around 2am on Sunday, when the car rammed into the rear side of a tractor trolley.

Three students —Ujjawal (21), Shikhar (22) and Rajesh (21) —died and the others injured.

Of the 10 students, eight were pursuing a bachelor’s course in biotechnology at Amity University. They used to live in paying guest accommodations near Amity University in Noida’s Sector 125.

Out of the seven who were injured, two Amity university students, Pranav Pandey and Shubham Chaudhary, were admitted to the hospital, where their condition was said to be critical due to injuries to the head, rib and chest.

“Pranav received head injuries and he has currently been discharged from Max Hospital in Saket, whereas Shubham, who received rib and chest injuries, is still in a critical condition and undergoing treatment in Apollo Hospital, Indraprastha. The five other students are out of danger. We have informed their parents,” Savita Mehta, spokesperson for Amity University, said.

The students were reportedly travelling to Murthal to eat paranthas, as it is a famous place that is clustered with numerous roadside dhabas that offer paranthas to interstate travellers.

Of the three students who died, Shikhar and Rajesh were second-year students of Amity University, whereas Ujjawal was a student of another private university. They were rushed to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chander Hospital in Narela, where they were declared brought dead.

According to the police, the accident took place as the students’ car, behind a tractor that was towing a trolley filled with bricks, suddenly rammed into the trolley tractor. The impact was so large that the left side of the car was completely damaged, the police said. The three students who died were reported to be sitting on the left side of the vehicle.

The tractor driver fled the spot and a search has been launched to track him, the police said. The tractor and the car have also been taken into possession, the police said.

Students and teachers of Amity University observed a two-minute silence on account of the three deaths and also issued a statement in the regard. “It is an extremely unfortunate incident and the entire university is with the parents of the deceased students. We offer our condolences to them,” Mehta said.
