Mother of 5-year-old kills self after husband dies of heart attack

A 36-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide an hour after her husband died of a heart attack at a hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

A 36-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide an hour after her husband died of a heart attack at a hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

Monika Agarwal jumped off the eighth floor of her house at Prateek Laurel society in Sector 120 just after an hour of her 39-year-old husband Anurag Agarwal’s death at Fortis Hospital in Sector 62 here.

Anurag was a software engineer and worked with a company in Sector 63.

The couple is survived by a five-year-old daughter.

Anurag suffered a heart attack at 11 am on Tuesday. He was immediately taken to Fortis hospital in Sector 62 by his wife. He died during treatment and was declared dead at 1.30 pm by the hospital authorities.

After his death, Monika went to her house and jumped from her flat’s balcony at 2.30pm. She was immediately taken to Fortis Hospital by the security guards of the building and neighbours. She succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

“No suicide note was recovered from the spot. The family members have been informed about the incident. The body has been sent for the post-mortem. It seems that after the death of her husband she had a shock. The couple was married seven years ago. She was a housewife,” said inspector Pankaj Pant of Phase III police station.

In a similar incident last week, the wife of an ACP of Delhi Police died after jumping off the balcony of her fourth floor flat in Noida Sector 100 after the ACP shot himself dead. The wife, Sarita Singh, died two days later on Wednesday.
