Almost a month after a 22-year-old man named Anshul was found murdered near Kot Canal Bridge in Dadri of Greater Noida, police revealed that it was the victim’s mother who hatched the conspiracy to have him killed. Police said she took the help of her paramour and two sons-in-law to carry out the murder.

Police said Anshul was strangled by two hired killers on June 18.

According to police, Suresh Devi (45), a native of Luharli village of Dadri, had hired the contract killers from Bulandshahr to kill her son as he had objected to her relationship with a man.

On Friday morning, police arrested Suresh Devi from her residence, and also her paramour Kanhaiyya, a native of Dairy Machha in Badalpur, Greater Noida.

Her two sons-in-law Sachin and Amit Kumar, both natives of Raipur Bangar in Dadri and contract killer Satendra, a native of Kakod in Bulandshahr, were also arrested. Another contract killer, Amit, a native of Kakod in Bulandshahr, is on the run.

“Anshul had seen his mother with Kanhaiyya upon which he beat up the duo. He also warned Kanhaiyya against visiting his house in Luharli village again. Suresh Devi then asked Sachin and Kumar to hire contract killers from Bulandshahr,” Munish Pratap Singh, station house officer, Dadri police station, said.

“Kumar hired Satendra and Amit and then brought Anshul to the Kot Canal bridge on the evening of June 18, on the pretext of having drinks with him and his ‘friends’ Satendra and Amit. Kumar soon left on the pretext of buying some cold drinks and the two killers strangulated Anshul and threw his body near the canal,” he said.

Locals found the body and reported the matter to police.

According to police, Suresh Devi convinced her two sons-in-law to be partners in the crime as Anshul had beaten them up in the past and they, too, wanted revenge.

“Anshul was an alcoholic and he had picked fights with almost every member of his family, including his elder brother Deepanshu and Kumar and Sachin,” Singh said.

Police said they got a lead when no member of the family showed any interest in finding Anshul’s killers.

“Villagers also told us that there were many fights in the family and everybody hated Anshul except his father Satish Kumar, who is a daily wage earner. It was Satish who filed a murder complaint and except him, no one was bothered to find Anshul’s killers. We also found that Satish Kumar was usually heavily sedated by Suresh Devi who then used to call Kanhaiyya home,” Singh said.

“At first, Satendra and Amit had demanded ₹2 lakh for the murder but, later, they agreed to ₹35,000,” Singh said.

Police have booked six persons under the Indian Penal Code Section 302 (murder). “A search is on to arrest Amit, the second hired killer,” Singh said.
