Speaking to the HT, the AAI vice-president, Paresh Nath Mukherjee said, “We noticed a dip in the scores of some of our compound archers. Besides, he was never our first choice. The UK coach we wanted had refused to come to India after the terror attacks in Mumbai in November last year. So we had to make do with him.”
Mukherjee also said that the AAI be looking for coaches for short periods from now on.
“Since compound archery is not in the Olympics nor in the Asian Games unlike recurve, it is difficult to judge a coach’s skills,” he said. “That is why we’ll give short-term assignments to the foreign coaches we hire in this category.”
Feeney was being paid $5000 per month and was appointed by the SAI.
