Initially, we will be launching departments of trauma care, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, surgery, orthopaedics and radiology from the Independence Day, said institute director Dr Girish Kumar Singh.

We will also provide full-fledged emergency services to handle serious injury cases and patients suffering from heart ailments and brain stroke, he told HT on Saturday. Of the total 960 beds planned, 172 will be operational in in-patient departments,he said. The rest of the beds will be functional in phases. These will include 50 beds for critical care.

Ten paying wards for VIPs and affluent patients would also be set up by August 15. Each such ward would have a separate attached lavatory, a bed for the patient, one sofa-cumbed for the attendant besides a television set.

The director said as many as 85 faculty members had been selected so far and 60 of them had already joined.

We are fortunate that six specialists, who were working in reputed hospitals in foreign countries, have joined AIIMS, Patna,he added.
