"A meeting chaired by Director General of Police Anand Shankar decided to approach neighbouring state agencies to hammer the inter-state network of peddlers of arms, ammunition and explosive materials," a senior police official told PTI today.

The move followed seizure of a huge cache of firearms, high grade explosive materials and ammunition, the police officer said.

According to him, the most-favoured routes for secret transportation of the weapons and explosives were the porous Indo-Nepal and densely forested Bihar-Jharkhand border.

After obtaining important information from 714-km long porous Indo-Nepal border with Bihar, now the crime syndicate operative on the Indo-Nepal borders is in the firing line for the state police headquarters, he said.

State police take the elimination of the crime syndicate involved in running of illegal firearms, ammunition, explosive materials and narcotics as "a major challenge" and special action plan has been planned to tackle it, he said.
