Three killed, six injured in bus-truck collision in Purnia

The district administration immediately extended financial assistance of 4.03 lakh to the bereaved family.

At least three persons were killed and six others injured when a speeding truck rammed against a bus near Dagarua on national highway (NH) 31, some 15 km from district headquarters Purnia on Wednesday evening.

The ill-fated bus, carrying around 40 passengers, was going to Baisa block from Purnia.

The victims have been identified as Kishun Dev Sah (50), a daily wager of Lashanpur, Afaque Alam (45), also of Lashnpur and Md Rubesh (35), a marginal farmer of Bowari, all under Dagarua police station area of the district.

The six injured were admitted to the district hospital and were reported to be out of danger, said Baisi sub divisional officer Sunil Kumar, who rushed to the spot. He said that an ex-gratia of 4.03 lakh was immediately extended to the bereaved family. While 4 lakh was given under provisions of the disaster management act, an additional Rs 3,000 was paid to each of the bereaved family for performing the last rites of their kin, said Kumar.

The police have seized the truck and succeeded in nabbing its cleaner, while the driver had managed to escape.
