The labourers, who had been taken to Tamil Nadu after promising them to pay handsome wages by a middleman of an oil factory, had been kept hostages by its owner. They were forced to work for about 14 hours a day without any payment.

Vijay Giri, a released labourer, said Lalan Yadav, a contractor of Harsidhi locality, who had taken them to Tamil Nadu, had promised them to pay Rs. 210 per day but the owner released us after we became ill. When we demanded our wages, the factory owner said their wages had been paid to the middleman, Giri said.
