Governor Devanand Konwar administered the oath to Singh, also a former state Congress president, at a simple function at Raj Bhavan this morning.

Singh was the Speaker of the House between 2000 and 2005 when Congress shared power with the RJD.

The winter session of the Assembly would begin here from tomorrow to facilitate the newly-elected MLAs to take oath. The Speaker will be elected on December 2 and the Governor is to address the joint session of the two Houses of the state legislature the following day.
