The Saturday’s night incident in which the railway minister’s second brother-in-law and Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Yadav, along with his supporters, stopped Rajdhani Express for 20 minutes, was not the first incident of its kind, when the railway authorities at Patna Junction were at the receiving end.

Subhash and his elder brother, Anirudh Prasad alias Sadhu Yadav had earlier compelled the railway authorities at Patna to change the designated platform of Rajdhani Express. The two brothers had tried to prevail upon the railway authorities at Patna Junction to change the platforms assigned to the Rajdhani and Sampoorna Kranti Express trains.

However, despite the pressure, the Railways obliged only one of them. While the younger brother, Subhash, succeeded in getting the platform designated for Patna-New Delhi Rajdhani Express changed citing threat perception to his life, the elder brother, Sadhu, was persuaded to board the train from its usual platform.

Incidentally, it is his elder brother, Sadhu, who is facing a threat to his life and was provided Black Cat security during RJD rule.

The Railway authorities say that though no such rules exist under which an MP can ask for a change of platform, such a request can be entertained under special circumstances. Only recently, the Howrah-Danapur Express was parked by Platform No 1 instead of platforms 2,3 or 4, which are usually the assigned platforms for the train. “This was done as it was carrying a VIP passenger, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who had requested such a change because of his fragile health,” said a railway source.

Joining the party was their eldest brother, Prabhunath Singh Yadav, who entered into an alteraction with the pantry car men of the 2010 New Delhi-Patna Rajdhani Express. He is also said to have exchanged words with the Railway Vigilance team. Yadav, however, denied of any such incident.

The Railway Minister’s father-in-law was recently fined for travelling in AC first class coach in Samapark Kranti Express from Hajipur to Gopalganj without a valid ticket.
