Photos: Trade unions ‘Bharat Bandh’ hits transport and banking services

Ten trade unions and six bank unions are participating in a 24-hour Bharat Bandh against what these unions have termed the Centre's "anti-worker and anti-people policies." Farmers and students joined some of the protests called by nions who claim 25 crore members between them. The government had warned employees that strikers would face "consequences" including having wages deducted and other disciplinary action if they joined the protest.

Delhi remained largely remained unaffected though most industrial workers stayed away from work. Metro and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) services were unaffected despite the strike call. In Bihar, the state capital woke up to inconveniences caused by auto-rickshaws staying off the roads. People hit the streets demanding workers rights and denouncing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the proposed countrywide NRC. A large number of Anganwadi workers opposing the Labour Code Bill and demanding regularisation of jobs and increased wages were also seen. (ANI)
