Photos: Several states step up curbs amid a surge in coronavirus cases

On May 6, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan joined several other states to impose complete lockdowns in a bid to curb the spread coronavirus infections. Kerala recorded 42,464 new infections on May 6, the highest since the outbreak hit the state last year. Madhya Pradesh reported 12,421 fresh cases and 86 fatalities. Uttarakhand also extended the lockdown in three heavy caseload districts till May 10. India is currently battling the second wave of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and the current case tally stands at 3,645,164 active cases with 234,083 deaths.
