PHOTOS: The Bhaja Caves of Pune
The Bhaja Caves are a group of 22 rock-cut caves in Pune which date back to the 2nd century B.C. The caves are on a vital ancient route, 400 feet above Bhaja village. One of the most significant excavations is its chaitya, a form of wooden architecture. The caves are also proof that the tabla was part of Indian culture for not less than 2300 years, putting to rest an earlier belief that it was introduced to India by outsiders.
