US President Donald Trump and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron met anew, displaying toned down versions of their tight-gripped responses to each other during a 24 hour visit by Trump, coinciding with Bastille Day celebrations.

In a departure from previous interactions, the two leaders did not appear to engage in a tug of war played out in handshakes, as observed in their meetings during the NATO summit earlier this year where the two left each other white-knuckled. Measured handshakes and several pats on the back from both leaders appeared to be the greetings of choice in Paris. (Gonzalo Fuentes / Reuters)
