Photos: US logs 100,000 Covid-19 cases in a day as elections draw near

The United States on October 30, witnessed its highest surge in Covid-19 cases so far, reporting 100,233 new cases, just a handful days away from the US presidential election. The tally also marks the world’s highest national daily toll during the pandemic, surpassing India’s 24-hour record of 97,894 set in September. States that have recorded the highest number of cases in the US are the same where presidential candidates have most rigorously campaigned - such as Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. President Donald Trump has meanwhile been widely criticized for continuously downplaying the pandemic in US, even after catching the virus himself, last month.
