17-year-old Pune housekeeper commits suicide after alleged molestation

According to the police complaint, the accused wanted to have an affair with 17-year-old, but when she refused, he molested her.

A 17-year-old girl working as a housekeeper with a private firm allegedly jumped off the sixth floor of Rohan Mithila building in Vimannagar and committed suicide on Thursday after complaining to her sister of molestation by her supervisor.

The Vimannagar police registered a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) against the accused who was arrested on Friday.

Jitendra was arrested under Sections 354 (a) (sexual harassment), 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 11 (sexual harassment),12 (punishment for sexual harassment) of the Prevention of Children Against Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, 2012.

The complaint was filed by the sister of the deceased girl, a resident of Indiranagar Lohegaon.

The two sisters worked as housekeepers for ABR Management Solution Company in Vimannagar.

Police sub-inspector CS Chaudhari said that the accused was working as a supervisor in this firm where the two sisters were employed as housekeeping staff.

According to the police complaint, the accused wanted to have an affair with 17-year-old, but when she refused, he molested her.

“On February 15, the deceased girl complained to her sister about the accused. Around 2 pm she committed suicide and breathed her last at around 8 pm. We arrested the accused on February 16 under various sections,” Chaudhari said.
