Family bureau sow complaint over Bhide ‘son of a mango’ claim

His recent statement that certain couples were blessed with sons after eating mangoes from his orchard raised controversy. A health activist from Pune filed a complaint that such statements are a violation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) act.
The health activist from the city had written to family bureau on Monday regarding the statement made by Bhide and had underlined the responsibility of the health department to launch a case against those who violate PCPNDT.
Following this, the bureau has directed authorities to take necessary action. The letter by the bureau has directed the health department of the Nashik municipal corporation to take appropriate action against Bhide.
Meanwhile, Ramdas Athawale , Republican Party of India (RPI) leader and Union minister of state for social welfare, has demanded that Bhide’s public rallies be banned. Athawale said Bhide’s speeches are creating “uncertainty” in the society.
